222/223 Class

 A new exiting class for rifle owners, limited to rifles chambered for standard 222 and 223 production rifles and entry level optical equipment  

SA Hunting Rifle(SAHRSA) is the only official league for 223 class in South Africa. Only event hosted by SAHRSA will count towards the official SAHRSA rankings.

At the end of the year these rankings will apply for invites to the final SA 223 Competition to compete for a place in the SA 223 Team.

Club Shoots will not count towards the rankings or Sportshoot status points

 Equipment Rules 222/223 Class

 Specifications for the new class are as follows:
a. Calibre is Standard 222 Rem and Standard 223 Rem.
b. Maximum weight for rifle and telescope is 6kg.
c. Barrel length from front of action is 26 inches.
d. Maximum scope magnification is 14x.
e. No turrets will be used during the shoot.
f. Turrets will be sealed by the range officers before start of the match.
g. Any type of crosshair is allowed.
h. No muzzle breaks or silencers are allowed.
i. No semi-automatic rifles allowed.

Weapons will be scrutinised by the event organisers and a competitors weapon and equipment may be certified by a gunsmith and the

certificate presented to organisers.  

The SAHRSA has standardized the protocol to in operation of this rifle class.    



SAHRSA Provinces will present the 222/3 class competition. 

    • 222/3 competitor participate on a specialized 222/3 designed range, on the specified SAHRSA 222/3 targets or standard SAHRSA Targets.
    • Equipment as specified  for the 222/3 and the use there of.
    • The score attained by the 222/3 class will only apply in the 222/3 class ranking.
    • For a 222/3 class competition to qualify for the league log, 10 or more 222/3 class competitors must compete in a competition.
    • The organisers will forewarn 222/3 competitors at least 3 days before the event if the possibility exist that minimum amount of competitors can not be attained as well as on the day of the competition if the minimum amount of competitor has not been registered.. This will allow competitors the opportunity to withdraw with full refund of registration fees.
    • Provinces/Districts may collaborate and present two rounds of competition on a single day to count as two separate events.
      • Each round of six prescribed ranges will be separately competed, one session in the morning and one session in the afternoon.
      • The two rounds ranges must be unique by differentiating in distance, positions and and setting.
      • Targets must preferable be different but it is not a prerequisite.
    • No open class rifles or equipment will be used that does not comply to the specifications of the 222/3 class


Event hosting

SAHRSA national event must be submitted for approval by SAHRSA national management and thereafter will be published into official shooting calendar. Advertising of an event must be submitted before but not less than 20 days before an event for publication. A SAHRSA event may be outsourced to a service provider but at all times will remain under the auspices of the hosting province/district and responsibilties and accountability will not be delegated to a outsourced hosting service provider. 222/3 Class is open for all competitors of all ages and gender as single class. No separate age or gender classes will be run within the 222/3 class. 


A SA Hunting Rifle competition entry registration page will be opened for 222/3 class registration. When a 222/3 event is hosted under the option 1, Scores will be entered into the OPEN class scoresheets and transferred into the 222/3 scoring system. Scores and results will be be tabulated, published and announced at the event on the prescribed scoring system. After verification, the result will be published on the WEB  and published on the SA Hunting Rifle Web Site and the entered into the the national ranking.

 National Ranking

 A national competitors ranking will be maintained using the SAHRSA prescribed methodology based  on the average out of 3 competitions best scores.

SA 222/3 Final round

The top 30 competitors on the national ranking will be invited to a final shootout of 3 rounds where the finalist will compete head to head to determine the top ranked competitors who will qualify for the national team if and when a international or national competition is entered for by the SAHRSA. National Colours may be awarded subject to qualifying rules as specified by SASCOC.

Rules changes

As a developing class, the rule prescribed here is subject to change for practical reasons but will remain enforce for a full competition year for consistence

International competitions

Event hosted under the auspices of the IHRSA, IHRSA rules and targets will apply as prescribed.

Aanbied van 223 Kompetisie.

SAJSV Provinsies reel van 'n kompetisie . 

  1.  Die klas word as apart gespesialiseerde kompetisie geskiet
    • Die 222/3 skut kompeteer op baan ontwerp spesiaal vir die 222/3 kaliber op die alternatiewe 222/3 teikens soos voorgeskryf deur die SAJSV of op die standaard SAJSV teikens.
    • Die skut wat deelneem aan die kompetisie is beperk tot die gebruik van die 222/3 standaard wapen en voorgeskrewe optiese toerusting.
    • Die uitslag van die kompetisie sal slegs van toepassing wees vir die 222/3 liga punt indien 10 of meer skuts in 'n kompetisie in die 222/3 klas deel neem. Organiseerder sal ingeskrewe skuts tenminste 3 dae voor 'n kompetisie en op die dag van 'n kompetisie waarsku indien daar nie genoegsame inskrywings is vir 'n kompetisie. Dit sal skuts geleentheid gee om te besluit om vooraf te ontrek met terug betaling of voor te berei vir deelname in die
    • Provinsies kan saamwerk om saam op een dag twee standaard rondtes op te skiet.
      • 'n Rondte sal bestaan uit die voorgeskrewe 6 bane wat geskiet word in een sessie in die oggend en een sessie in die middag.
      • Die bane van die twee sessies moet wesenlik verskil deur posisies, afstande en liggings te verander.
      • Tipe teikens kan in die twee sessies verskil maar dit is nie ‘n voorvereiste nie.
    • Geen OPE klas wapens mag aangewend word in die kompetisie tensy die wapen voldoen aan die wapen spesifikasies  vir die 222/3 Klas


Aanbied van 'n kompetisie

SAJSV nasionale kompetisie moet ingedien word by SAJSV nasionale bestuur vir goedkeuring en sal daarna gepubliseer op die amptelik skiet kalender. Advertensie vir 'n kompetisie moet ingedien word vir advertering voor en nie minder as 20 dae voor 'n kompetisie. 'n SAJSV kompetisie mag gereël word deur buite aangestelde organisasies en diensverskaffers maar sal ten alle tye die verantwoordelikheid  en onder verantwoording bly van die provinsie /distrik en die verantwoording kan nie gedelegeer word aan die diensverskaffer. 222/3 klass is oop vir alle deelnemers van enige ouderdom en geslag as 'n enkele klas. Geen aparte 222/3 oudersdoms en geslags klasse sal geld in die 223 klas.

Registrasie en tellings

‘n Kompetisie registrasie blad sal opgemaak word in die sahuntingrifle.co.za webblad waar skuts aanlyn kan inskryf vir ‘n 223 kompetisie.

By elke kompetisie/sessie sal daar behoorlike tellings gedokumenteer word in die standaard SAJSV telling program  wat verskaf sal word aan die organiseerders voor die kompetisie.

Indien die opsie a) in die kompetisie gebruik word sal die skuts se telling op die OPE klas telling kaart ingevoer word. Die telling vir die 222/3 skuts moet ook in aparte 223 tellinglys oorgedra word. Die vereniging sal poog om dit programaties te ondersteun om die tellings in te trek om dubbel werk te voorkom.   Die tellings sal na die afloop van die kompetisie getabuleer word en ‘n uitslag sal bepaal word vir die kompetisie. Die resultate sal ingedien word by die ranglys organiseerder vir publikasie op die SAJSV webblad.   

Nasionale Ranglys 

'n Nasionale ranglys sal gedurende 'n seisoen onderhou word op die SAJSV voorgeskrewe metode gebasseer op die gemiddeld van 3 beste kopetisies

SA 223 Finale Rondte 

Na afloop van die 222/3 seisoen sal 'n ranglys opgestel word vir die 222/3 liga skuts. Die top 30 skuts in die liga sal uitgenooi word en geleentheid gebied word om by die finale nasionale uitskiet kompetisie te kompeteer oor 3 rondtes waar die top skuts bepaal sal word wat kan kwalifiseer vir Nasionale of internasionale deelname in die 223 klas. Nasionale kleure mag uitgereik word onderhewig aan vereisdes en goedkeuring deur SASKOK.

Reëls aanpassing 

As 'n ontwikkelende klas, mag die reëls hier uitgele verander vir praktiese redes maar sal in plek bly vir 'n volle kompetisie seisoen vir konsikwentheid.  

Internasionale kompetisie

Kompetisies aangebied onder die gesag van die IHRSA sal onder hewig wees aan IHRSA reëls voorskrifte en teikens.
